A key objective of the Connect programme is the delivery of a person centred service that supports individuals to achieve a better quality of life.

The aim of the programme is to empower students to make positive changes in their lives so as to experience greater community inclusion. The programme defines a range of services that will support students in developing greater levels of independence, developing social skills, managing health and wellbeing, participating in their own communities and progression to employment or further training.

A number of expected programme outcomes have been identified to support the students:

    • Make choices and plans about their life
    • Have influence over decisions which affect their lives
    • Be active, independent members of their local community
    • Develop higher levels of independence
    • Achieve personal goals and aspirations
    • Celebrate their successes and accomplishments

What each outcome will mean to each individual student will vary considerably and will be related to the hopes and expectations they have expressed throughout their person centred journey and self-discovery document.

Key elements of the Connect programme focus on:

    • Finding and maintaining hope
    • Re-establishing a positive identity
    • Building a meaningful life
    • Taking responsibility and control.
